For Course Providers: the ICT Co-ordinators Course

Martyn Wilson and Janet Roberts, in conjunction with Naace and Nottingham Trent University (NTU), have developed a course for new and aspiring ICT coordinators. For some time there has been a need to encourage and support teachers who wish to become or who have recently become ICT coordinators.

It is hoped that this course will:

Develop ICT coordinators expertise

Encourage new teachers to see ICT coordination as a potential career route or career  development opportunity

Help reduce the shortage of good ICT coordinators

Increase and improve networking between ICT coordinators

This is a course for teachers who want to become ICT co-ordinators from both the primary and secondary sectors.  It is to be accredited by Nottingham Trent University and upon successful completion teachers will be awarded 30 credit points at level 3 which could be counted towards a Masters qualification.

By the end of the course teachers will be able to co-ordinate the curriculum delivery of ICT in a primary or secondary school.

The course is designed to be delivered through face to face sessions (2 whole days, plus 4 twilight sessions) and 7 written assignments supported through electronic communication. However as long as the standard 7 assignments are completed the course format can be determined by the provider.

The course content will cover:-

Curriculum ICT and ICT in subject areas of the curriculum.  Models of delivery, assessment recording and reporting, schemes of work, monitoring and evaluating progress and good quality teaching
Vision and development planning

Staffing and staff development (recruitment and interviews)

IT in administration

Hardware and software issues

and is distributed via the Nottingham Trent University Managed Learning Environment (MLE).

If you provide courses and would like to offer this course as part of your programme you will need to enrol with Naace. Those providers who are accredited under the Naacemark Quality Assurance Scheme will be automatically accepted as quality assured. Non-accredited providers will be asked to provide evidence of Quality Assurance such as Tutor CVs and information regarding their proposed teaching facilities.
On enrolment you will be provided with a tutors pack. This pack provides information on:-

Enrolling your course members with the NTU
 Teaching the course,
Accessing the materials on the NTU Managed Learning Environment (MLE)
Marking, moderating and assessment of assignments
Contact telephone numbers or email addresses
Feedback or evaluation forms for Course members and tutors.

The cost per provider for the materials and support is 1600, plus 55 per student, and this covers the costs for one academic year. Individual providers may set the cost of the course to its potential students.
